I Cried to God

Third Anniversary of Bereavement by Greg Wright, February 8, 2004

I cried to God when I was lost,

And feared His condemnation.

He gave the faith that made me believe

And trust him for salvation.

I cry to God when faith is weak,

When joy expires in sadness.

The Holy Spirit strengthens faith,

Replacing grief with gladness.

The God who gives the faith to believe,

Will help us keep on believing.

When sorrows seem to overflow,

More grace we’ll be receiving.

So don’t forsake the means of grace–

Your church, the Word–though crying.

The Holy Spirit uses means

To keep your faith from dying.

But firmly stand with broken hearts,

And face the trials appointed.

The one who perseveres with God,

Will not be disappointed.

So we must not get tired of doing good,

for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up.

(Galatians 6:9, HCSB)
